The Emperor’s Club
1. Mr. Hundert’s quote can be seen as true by looking at his student Sedgewick he cheated in grade school and once he grew up he did not change was still cheating. He proved Mr. Hundert’s quote by saying that stupid does last forever and because when he grew up he did not grow out of his stupidity.
2. Mr. Hundert was so shaken by Sedgewick because Sedgewick’s father was rich and when he went to go and visit him his father ask Mr. Hundert what he wanted him to do because he did not know. Mr. Hundert felt limited to what he could do with Sedgewick so he became shaken and just made him seem better then he really was in the class. Mr. Hundert became altered by this experience by it haunted him through his life and did not forgive himself for what he did with Sedgewick.
3. Sedgewick influenced the other boys in the class and Mr. Hundert said his influence as “hypnotic” he led the other boys astray and in the beginning when he was disrupted he made the other boys disrupted as well and did not listen to Mr. Hundert. The other boys wanted to be like Sedgewick so they acted like he did and did the things he did.
4. The dilemma that Mr. Hundert faces is that Sedgewick did not make the finials he was the fourth person and they only take the top three. Mr. Hundert changed some of the grading on his paper so that he was able to be in the contest. With Sedgewick being in the contest that meant that another person would not get to that deserved to be in it.
5. During the contest Mr. Hundert notices that Sedgewick is cheating and does not really know the material on his own. When he sees that he is cheating Mr. Hundert tells the leader of the school that he is cheating but he tells him not to worry about it and go on with the contest. Mr. Hundert decides to take a question that he would not know the answer for and was on the plaque above the door and he does not know what it is. At the end of the contest Mr. Hundert goes up to him and confronts him about it and Sedgwick tells Mr. Hundert that he was not surprised that he knew and was surprised he didn’t do anything about it sooner.
6. Mr. Hundert wanted to participate in the contest again hoping that Sedgwick would have changed his ways and was not a cheater. Mr. Hundert also wanted to confront the person that should have been in the contest and tell him that he should have been in the contest and that he cheated him. He hopes that he can tell the students what he did and they can forgive him for what he did back when they were younger. His hope is hope his squashed by he sees that Sedgewick did not change and he cheated again on the contest again, but he was rewarded because the kid that should have been in the contest forgave him for not having him in the contest and did not think it was that big of deal.
7. The films does resolve the tension of what Sedgewick said because after he says it Sedgewick’s son comes out of the bathroom stall and hearing everything that he had just said. Sedgewick will now have to confront his son by what he was saying and make sure that he son does not live that way and make sure that he does not think that his father has lied his whole life and cheated his whole way through life.
8. Mr. Hundert returns to teaching because he realizes that what he did back in Sedgewick’s class has forgiven him and that he does not have to have it hanging over his head. He also misses the kids and putting the good in their life and wanting to be a good influence on them and he was a lot of student’s favorite teacher. The surprises that he gets when he gets back to teaching is Martens son comes into his class and Marten forgives Mr. Hundert and wants him to show his good to his son and give him another chance I some kind of way.
9. Mr. Hundert uses visual aid and makes contest for the kids that they can enter into if they do good on an assignment they can get into it and everyone can see how good they are doing in school
10. Mr. Hundert is not only teaches the students what they need to know for school he also teaches them the things that they need to know to grow in life and to make it in the real world and so they can succeed later in life and use the things that they have learned and apply them to the real world.
